A fantastic pair of framed and matted chiaroscuro print medallions of two Roman Emperors after the Dutch painter and engraver Hubert Goltzius' Icones Imperatorum Romanorum historical work published in 1557.
Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (also known as Antoninus Pius), a Roman Emperor who ruled from 138 to 161. The inscription on the medallion translates to Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Pius Augustus Britannicus (indicating the Emperor's claim to authority over British Isles.
Emperor Charles III (also known as Charles the Fat (the emperor of the Carolingian Empire from 881 to 887).
Black square frames with gold inner borders and black mattin. The medallions are large at 7" each. Ready to hang.
