A landmark piece of mid-century history, this exceptionally rare, first-edition Eames DAX Armchair for Herman Miller is highly coveted by collectors. Its value lies in the Rope Edge detailing along the rim—a feature exclusive to the shortest production run by Zenith Plastics (circa 1950–1953). The shell is in outstanding, unrestored vintage condition with virtually no edge wear, only minor surface patina, and is free of cracks. The chair retains its original Elephant Hide Grey color and the authentic Zenith/Herman Miller checkerboard label is intact on the underside. The tubular X-Base and period-correct shock mounts are structurally sound. This is a crucial, authentic piece of design innovation.
