This charming early 20th-century general store cooler was produced for Red Fox Beverages of Rhode Island, a regional soda company best known for its ginger ale and other flavored soft drinks. Made around 1930, the cooler is crafted from solid pine with original stenciled advertising that still reads clearly, including “DRINK RED FOX BEVERAGES” across the front and “SERVED ICE COLD” on the rear backsplash. The warm patina of the wood and the naturally worn surface speak to decades of use in a neighborhood market—exactly the sort of piece collectors look for when building an authentic early Americana or country-store display.
Inside, the cooler is lined with original tin, allowing shopkeepers to pack ice around bottled soda to keep beverages chilled throughout the day. The tin lining remains intact and shows age-appropriate oxidation typical of pieces from this era. The lid lifts smoothly, and the overall presentation is wonderfully honest, with scuffs, marks, and wear that reinforce its use in a working environment rather than a decorative one.
This cooler displays beautifully in a kitchen, tavern, bar area, or retail setting, especially when paired with antique bottles or period advertising. It remains in nice antique condition with wear consistent with its age and use, including expected surface wear, old nail marks, and characterful dings to the pine. A great opportunity to own an authentic piece of early soda-fountain history from a beloved New England brand. 37h x 34w x 20d counter height 32
