Art Deco, Art Nouveau style. This charming still life depicts a bouquet of white and pink peonies arranged in a vase.

The peonies display shades ranging from deep pink to creamy white, with delicate nuances that highlight the softness of the petals.

The composition is lush and almost overflowing, with blooms opening in multiple directions.

Soft light and shadow create a warm, reassuring atmosphere.

The canvas is signed lower right by Van Mierlo, a Belgian painter known for his floral paintings, country landscapes, and still lifes.

Eugene Van Mierlo (1880-1972) he studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and was influenced by movements such

as Post-Impressionism, Luminism, and Fauvism. He took part in three editions of the preparatory competition for the Prix de Rome

(1904, 1907, 1910). In 1907 he exhibited at the “Exposition Générale des Beaux-Arts” in Brussels, and in 1917 with the artistic circle

Le Lierre at the Aeolian Gallery in Brussels. He was also active in the Brussels exhibition scene, including the “Les Indépendants” salon.

The painting comes with its original early 20th-century gilded frame.

Both the oil painting and the frame have been carefully and professionally restored.
