About the artist: Ugo Zaccagnini was an Italian ceramist and artist, best known for his role in the family-run Zaccagnini ceramics factory in Florence, Italy. The Zaccagnini factory became one of the most prestigious names in Italian ceramics in the 20th century, combining traditional craftsmanship with innovative designs. Ugo Zaccagnini founded the Zaccagnini Ceramics Factory in 1905 in Florence. The factory focused on producing artisanal ceramics inspired by Renaissance traditions while incorporating modern influences. Ugo Zaccagnini specialized in decorative and functional ceramics, including vases, figurines, and tableware. His designs often featured vibrant glazes, detailed sculptural elements, and motifs inspired by Italian art and nature. The workshop fused traditional Italian techniques with Art Deco and later mid-century modern aesthetics. Under Ugo's leadership, the company attracted skilled artisans and earned a reputation for quality and innovation. The Zaccagnini name became synonymous with Italian ceramics, exporting pieces internationally. In the mid-20th century, the company produced works for global markets, including collaborations with Walt Disney to create collectible ceramic figurines. Ugo died in 1937, but the Zaccagnini factory continued under his family's management, maintaining its reputation for high-quality ceramics. The factory closed in the 20th century, but his works remain highly collectible and prized by antiques enthusiasts. Zaccagnini pieces are often marked with the company logo, a "Z" with a horizontal line, or "Zaccagnini Firenze." This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
