A rare devotional figure from Spain's rich religious carving tradition, this hand-carved wooden Santos sculpture depicts the Virgin Mary seated in a contemplative pose. Created in the 1800s, the piece retains its original polychrome paint, with delicate traces of gilding and layered pigments that reveal the artisan's skill.

The sculpture's back bears marks suggesting it was once part of a larger altarpiece or architectural setting. Its aged surface shows a beautiful patina of wear, with small losses to the upper right portion of the head revealing the plaster substrate beneath. The wood exhibits characteristic wormholes.
