period 1970s/1980s
designer lino sabattini was born in correggio (reggio emilia) on september 23, 1925, to simple, hard-working parents. \. At the age of fourteen, he found work in como in a workshop producing everyday brass objects. It was not a random choice. He soon came across a copy of "domus," gio ponti's magazine. It became his textbook, his bible, his correspondence course. He earned a living in the brassware shop, but he also learned metalworking techniques. \. At the age of thirty, sabattini left blevio and moved to milan, where he set up a small workshop in a basement with the tools he needed for his work. His ties with domus grew stronger. He now also knew young architects, students of gio ponti. One of them brings the master some metal objects created by the young craftsman. One day ponti shows up at his door. He looks, touches, and gives him an idea to develop. Only three days pass and sabattini finishes the job. Ponti is enthusiastic. Thus begins a friendship marked by fundamental milestones\. From 1958 to 1963, he worked in paris and milan for the famous christofle company, trying in vain to do away with worn-out, soulless productions. In 1964, he moved to bregnano, a small town between como and milan. He became an entrepreneur of his ideas, his sensitivity, and his diversity, which found no place in the contemporary manufacturing world. Thus began his solitary adventure, which took shape in argenteria sabattini, where he created the most limpid and graceful forms in silver. Source: linosabattini.com
