Saturated layers of deep electric blue swirl among specks of gold inside heavy, crystal-clear glass, creating dynamic internal motion and shimmering light refraction. The piece has the presence of a small sculpture while retaining the refined, perfectly balanced form characteristic of Nourot’s substantial paperweights.

Michael Nourot’s artistic journey began at California College of Arts and Crafts, where he quickly emerged as a leading figure in the rapidly expanding West Coast glass scene. He was part of the early Pilchuk Glass School team—working alongside Dale Chihuly—and later traveled to Murano to study traditional Venetian glassmaking at the Vinnini factory. These experiences shaped Nourot’s signature approach: bold color chemistry, superb technical control, and richly layered cased glass.

Upon returning to California, Michael and his wife Ann Corcoran founded Nourot Art Glass Studio in 1974. Their Benicia workshop became known for its innovative color formulas and for the exceptional craftsmanship that earned the studio high-profile commissions for clients such as George Lucas, Pope John Paul II, and many heads of state.
