Collector's Note: This is a breathtaking piece of American Folk Art and textile history. This heirloom Crazy Quilt dates to the late Victorian or early Edwardian period (c. 1880–1910) and was stitched by hand in the Midwest. This quilt transcends utilitarian use; it is a "Parlor Quilt," a status piece, Every bit as beautiful as it is Cozy, a Centerpiece when not in use by a distinguished guest who stayed too late to attempt a long ride home that night ..
Materials and Craftsmanship:
Luxury Fabrics: The quilt features a significant number of luxurious patches, including silk pieces (in various shades of green and other colors) and patches of deep burgundy plush fabric (likely velvet or a velvet-like textile), alongside high-quality wool, cotton, and flannel scraps.
Hand-Stitched Throughout: The construction is entirely hand-pieced and hand-stitched, with decorative embroidery defining the seams and sections—a testament to the enormous time and artistry invested.
Aesthetic: The palette is rich and moody, dominated by deep jewel tones, reflecting the Aesthetic Movement popular in this era.
Condition and Provenance:
Condition for Age: The quilt is remarkably well-preserved for its age. While there are a few small areas of fraying or stitching flaws typical of antique silk/wool (which we have documented in the photos and are a hallmark of authenticity), the piece is structurally sound and presents beautifully.
Dimensions: 80"x70" the piece is a generous size for display on a wall or draped over a piece of antique furniture.
This quilt is ideal for a high-end collector, museum, or interior designer seeking an authentic, luxury Victorian textile.

The quilt is stable and strong for its age and is fully backed. IMPERFECTIONS & AUTHENTICITY: As is typical with antique quilts of this age featuring mixed materials, there are some minor signs of aging that confirm its authenticity: I noticed approximately 10 panels have some fraying or "shattering," particularly in the silk and satin patches. This is expected with century-old luxury fabrics. There are a few small stitching flaws from the original hand-piecing. Imperfections are documented in the photos and do not detract from the quilt's stunning visual impact or its status as a remarkable heirloom. less
