The Color Cup Series is a natural progression from the Color Rhythm Series. While continuing exploring repetitive shapes and color, a sneaky, representational shape emerged in my drawings and paintings: the vessel. Vessels and cups became a slight obsession, the first representational object in my work in over a decade. I was going through some health issues while working on this series, and deeply felt the cups were a metaphor for abundance, health, and joy– all things I needed a reminder for to keep my perspective and focus moving forward during that difficult time. Working on this series still brings me a feeling of optimism and curiosity- both things that light me up in art making. See less
