A work of rare grace and purity, this alabaster sculpture captures the elegance of Neoclassicism and is inspired by the famous "Baigneuse" (Bather) by Étienne-Maurice Falconet (1716-1791), one of the masters of 18th-century French sculpture.
Main Features:
Subject: The nude female figure, depicted in an intimate and modest moment as she prepares to bathe, her drapery raised to partially cover her body and leaning against a tree trunk. Her head is bowed in a gesture of chaste modesty, typical of Neoclassical aesthetics.
Material: Fine white alabaster, which gives the work a unique transparency and softness, enhancing the smoothness of the anatomical forms.
Signature: The base bears the inscription "Falconet," indicating that it is a reduction or replica made "d'après" (that is, inspired by the original work) by the French master. This type of reproduction was very popular between the 19th and early 20th centuries, allowing collectors to own classical masterpieces on a smaller scale.
Details: The workmanship is exquisite, evident in the depiction of the gathered hair, the hands holding the drapery, and the toes. The rounded base, with its textured finish, contrasts with the smoothness of the figure.
Period: Although a reproduction of an 18th-century model, the work dates to the late 19th or early 20th century.
