Terracotta Bust after Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux – Early 20th Century
A superb terracotta bust after Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, created in the early 20th century, depicting the famous Neapolitan Laugher, one of the sculptor's most expressive and emblematic figures.
This model perfectly captures the spirit of Carpeaux: a vibrant realism, an emotion captured in the moment, and an extraordinary sense of movement. The young boy, smiling and mischievous, is modeled with great finesse, both in the face and in the drapery and details of the hair.
