A gorgeous, extremely impressive and very rare georgian style pot board dresser base in lovely condition. Made in the late 20th century by high-end furniture maker theodore alexander, this stunning dresser base, a magnificent modern take on a classic english antique, makes a wonderfully eye-catching sideboard, which won’t fail to add superb quality, beautifully rich colouring and a very distinguished and stylish look to any interior.
the smaller of two theodore alexander pot board dressers we currently have in stock, this impressive piece is a great size for a variety of settings. Reassuringly heavy and made of solid cherry wood, this sideboard dresser base exudes quality craftsmanship throughout, as you’d expect from theodore alexander. A stunning piece to view from any angle, the use of cherry wood is the most significant modern twist on the 300-year-old design. A modern piece with one foot firmly in antiquity, the rich and ruddy, light-brown tones are reminiscent of georgian mahogany, which its antique forerunners would have been made from, enabling this fabulous piece to be just as much at home in a modern interior as a period country house.
a very attractive statement piece, which is ideal for storage and display purposes, it features a stunning two-plank top above two large drawers with lovely metal handles over a large and very useful lower shelf, and is set on substantial and charming, turned bun feet.
made in the traditional manner without glue or screws, the superb craftsmanship can be seen in the six extremely impressive and very sturdy, classically styled turned columnar legs, as well as the dovetail joined drawers and the bordered, rounded edging to the large top.
pot boards were originally designed as dressers or cabinets to store pots and kitchen accessories and would often be used as bases for dressers, which would be placed on top with plates and crockery. This charmingly decorative and highly practical piece marries antique rustic sympathies with modern impactful tastes – the effect really works wonders and creates a superb sideboard for the modern furniture lover, which nods back to a rich design history.
all in all this is an extremely attractive and highly practical sideboard dresser base, which will add beautiful colouring, super quality and classical wow-factor styling to any setting.
condition
this is in very good condition. Beautifully crafted, impressively sized, reassuringly heavy and structurally sound, it has only the most minor of marks and bumps to show its age. Although it no longer has a theodore alexander label affixed, we’re extremely confident it is by the prestige maker, judging by the finish and quality of workmanship and due to very close resemblance to our other, larger, labelled theodore alexander pot board dresser base. Overall it's a gorgeous rare antique style sideboard dresser base in lovely condition and if well looked after it should be just as eye-catching and practical for many generations to come – please see the photos.
