Judith Leiber Horse: Vintage Book Piece

This is a vintage minaudière from 1979 by Judith Leiber.
A book piece, a similar minauduere is prominently displayed on page 136 of 'The Artful handbag' by Enid Nemy
This bag is part beaded and part florentined by hand, a Venetian technique characterised by its embodiment of a painterly style and an enhanced degree of naturalism. The Florentine effect is achieved by several layered brushstrokes on the gold tone metal surface that define the desired form of a gift box.
Judith Leiber pays close attention to the effects of light on the surface, and has brought this knowledge of light into play in this gift wrapped box using the reflected light on the surface to create both movement and volume. The stylized shape, the Florentine surface, the sleek and clean lines all condense the Art Deco features in this gift box.
