The form is stripped to almost nothing so the Roman travertine can lead.

Roman travertine is the stone of ancient Rome, formed in the mineral springs around Tivoli and used across the Colosseum and the colonnades of St Peter's Square. It carries a soft, creamy beige tone, its delicate linear veining and gently layered structure warmer and more understated than the marbles. Each top is cut from the block it came from, so no two of these Roman travertine coffee tables share the same figure.

The base is the quieter feat. Two slabs of the same stone are notched and set at right angles, one passing through the other, so the piece carries itself with no brackets and no visible fixing. What holds it up is exactly what draws the eye.

Low in its demands and clear in its intent, the Roman travertine coffee table sits in front of a sofa without asking for attention. The Hashi is an Italian coffee table made to order in Cantù, in Lombardy's long-established furniture district, drawn from full-slab stone, solid timber, and premium Italian glass. See less
