The glass is tinted a cool, smoke grey, dark enough to read as architecture yet never quite opaque. Light passes through it and softens, so the piece holds a shadowed depth rather than a solid mass, its tone shifting quietly through the day. It is the cooler, more restrained sibling to the bronzed glass. Within the collection the glass is the lightest register Lebanto works in, a counterweight to the stone. It is worked to the same tolerances as the stone tops, so the edges read as line rather than thickness and the piece keeps its clarity from every angle.

Nothing about the making is concealed. Two panels of glass interlock at right angles into a self-supporting cross-leg base, the join legible straight through the material, so structure and surface are the same thing.

Quiet and composed, the smoked glass coffee table holds a room without demanding it, as at ease in front of a sofa as anywhere. The Aka is an Italian coffee table made to order in Cantù, in Lombardy's long-established furniture district, drawn from full-slab stone, solid timber, and premium Italian glass. See less
