Translucent greys and bold lines create a lyrical interplay of tone, suggesting forms while remaining purely abstract. Darnaud, Lyon-born and a pioneer of “abstraction pointilliste,” extended Seurat’s pointillism into the realm of full abstraction. Originally a landscape painter, he turned to pure abstraction in the postwar years, gaining recognition in salons such as Lyon’s Salon Regain of 1976.
