Rare French industrial design lamp, model "Ki-é-Klair" 210, designed by Alphonse Pinoit (1881–1961). Chrome-plated aluminum construction with telescopic height adjustment and a freely swiveling, 360° rotating head. The designer's initials and logo are still visible on the base fixing screws — a detail found on only a few surviving examples. Untouched original condition.
Description:
This engineer's lamp combines uncompromising functionality with elegant Art Déco lines. Rather than clamping to a tabletop, it is designed for vertical fixation — to a desk leg, a heating pipe, a shelf edge, or similar — and can just as easily be turned to shine upward as a simple uplighter. Height is adjusted via a telescopic system in the central pole; once tightened, the shade tilts and rotates freely through 360 degrees.
The slender, tapered shade reflects the clean lines typical of mid-century French design. Alphonse Pinoit's initials and the manufacturer's logo remain legible on the base screws, a detail rarely preserved on surviving examples.
Lamps of this model are known to have furnished the drafting tables in Jean Prouvé's studio — a nice piece of context for this type of lamp, though not a documented provenance for this specific example.
