This sculptural Hirado porcelain teapot, modelled as a minogame turtle, brings a distinctive Japanese decorative note to a contemporary interior. Produced in the Mikawachi kilns during the late Edo period, the piece is crafted from the characteristically fine Hirado porcelain body with crisp underglaze-blue decoration. The arched tail functions as the handle, while the shell is formed of hexagonal panels detailed with delicate floral motifs. The clam-shell knop and sencha-style vent hole on the lid add an elegant finishing feature.
The clean glaze, refined blue painting and well-balanced proportions make this an ideal accent for a console, bookshelf or curated vignette. Pieces of this type were traditionally intended as scholar’s objects and translate beautifully into modern design settings.
