This expressive iron sculpture by Raphael Saintenoy captures the dynamic energy of motion through a raw, almost architectural composition. Constructed from welded and forged iron sheets, the work conveys both strength and fragility the horse emerging as an abstract symbol of freedom and endurance.
Its angular rhythm and sculptural balance reflect the spirit of postwar European constructivism, where industrial materials became instruments of artistic expression. The surface bears a rich patina that deepens its sense of history and material poetry.
Historical note
A black-and-white photograph dated May 5th, 1966, taken at the Vlaams Festival in Eindhoven, documents this work by Saintenoy a rare glimpse into the vibrant cultural exchange between Belgian and Dutch modernist artists of the 1960s.
