Crafted from solid oak with handwoven rye straw seats, these chairs embody the honest, architectural aesthetic of postwar French design.
The squared legs are reinforced by crossbars with visible through-tenon joints, highlighting their artisanal construction. The high backs with four broad slats give the chairs a bold, rustic presence while maintaining a refined balance between traditional craftsmanship and modern simplicity.
These chairs made in the late 1940s are attributed to Pierre de La Londe—formerly a collaborator of Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann—and his associate Jean Lefèvre, reflecting the spirit of reconstruction and the return to functional, sincere design.
Similar variation of the model was featured in "Mobilier et Décoration", January 1948, p.29.
