The work is based on the original equestrian monument by Pietro Tacca, executed in Florence in the 17th century for the Spanish crown. This monumental bronze head reflects Sánchez Castillo’s deep engagement with history, power, and memory, themes central to his artistic practice. A similar piece is part of the collection of the Basque Museum of Contemporary Art (Museo de Arte Contemporáneo del País Vasco).
