author sergio albano (turin, 1939 – 2008) was a figurative painter from turin linked to an updated form of metaphysics and magical realism. His painting is recognizable for its clear and silent compositions, essential architectural spaces, and isolated figures, often female, captured in a suspended moment. The objects (books, fruit, instruments, vases, curtains, half-open doors) are never simple decorative elements: they have a symbolic weight, like clues to a meaning that remains hidden. The light is clear, steady, without drama; the shadows are sharp, the contours precise, with a sober palette tending towards blue, ochre, earth tones, and whites. Hence the sense of calm and anticipation that characterizes his canvases. Trained in turin after world war ii, albano looked to de chirico and savinio, but softened their irony and metaphysical torment in a more intimate and contemplative register. He has participated in exhibitions and solo shows in italy and abroad since the 1960s, quickly establishing himself among the cultured bourgeois collectors of turin and milan. His visual world appears consistent throughout his career: albano does not chase the avant-garde, remaining faithful to a poetics of calm precision, almost meditative.
