author sebastiano panunzi (tolentino, june 23, 1845 – 1924) was an italian painter active between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He began studying architecture in naples but soon devoted himself to painting, specializing in battle scenes and the representation of cavalry corps, with a dynamic and narrative rendering. He also painted watercolors and created caricatures, demonstrating technical versatility and a taste for lively characterization. He exhibited regularly in major italian exhibitions: among his best-known works are una rivista di cavalleria (rome, 1883), una carica di bersaglieri (turin, 1884), and un nembo di cavalleria (venice, 1887) . At the beginning of the 20th century, he moved to the united states, living between new york and philadelphia, where he also worked as an engineer. He died in 1924. He is remembered as a recognizable interpreter of italian military painting in the second half of the 19th century, attentive to movement, action, and atmospheric rendering.
