Dutch toy chair by ko verzuu for ado, 1920s a miniature toy armchair by jacobus (ko) verzuu (1901-1971) for ado, executed in purple, grey, yellow, and black plywood, with pierced back and sides. Stamped to the underside with an early pine tree stamp and with original early pencil markings. Model number 595. The story of ado toys begins in 1918 in apeldoorn. German barracks, where allied officers had been stationed during the first world war, were placed at the berg en bosch villa. From 1918 onward, patients suffering from tuberculosis, a lung disease that proved fatal for many people before the second world war, were accommodated there. Treatment consisted of rest in the berg en bosch sanatorium. After their stay at the sanatorium, patients were expected to return to work. In preparation for this, aftercare patients worked in the ado workshop from 1922 onward, an idea of director willem bronkhorst (1888-1960). Because the patients were not yet fully able to participate in society, they were called "disabled workers." the products from the workshop were therefore called "labour by disabled people," abbreviated to "ado." the patients made all kinds of objects, such as toys, under the direction of jacobus (ko) verzuu (1901–1971), and weaving, under the direction of elisabeth loke (1902–1988). The workshop leaders also designed the products. The measurement is 20 cm high, 19 cm wide and the depth is 20 cm the weight is 583 grams this piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
