Pair of Gilded Bronze and Cut and Colored Crystal Cake Stands, Austria, Second Half of the 19th Century. These exquisite dessert bowls feature two semi-nude cherubs in cast and gilded bronze, standing on a circular base decorated with ribbed motifs and geometric incisions, resting on an octagonal plinth with a shaped apron.
The two semi-nude cherubs have hair adorned with vine crowns and bunches of grapes, iconographic symbols of abundance and wealth, and a belt with vine leaves across their bellies. with raised arms, they hold a dodecagonal plate in cut crystal decorated with polychrome floral and geometric motifs and colored in shades of green, red, and blue.
One of the two features a small solder joint near the drapery.
These two 19th-century pieces bear the inscription "Austria" on their base, indicating their country of origin.
