French Papier-mâché Snuff Box, Painted 1800. An antique circular box with a finely painted lid depicting a mountain landscape with figures and herds crossing a river, a dove flying in the sky, and a shepherd in the foreground, standing with a staff in one hand and a bird in the other, keeping watch over a seated woman breastfeeding two children in the shade of the vegetation.
The initials V E S are painted in gold on the black background of this snuff box.
It is in good condition, except for minor chipping and old retouching, as shown in the photo. France, 19th century.
