The frontal figure is rendered through overlapping layers of materials, earths, and natural pigments that recall ancient wall surfaces, with a rough, irregular texture typical of the artist's technique. The intertwined hands and the archaically proportioned face are inserted into a rigorous compositional space, punctuated by simple geometric shapes and backgrounds. Mignozzi's signature is clearly visible on the front and also on the back, guaranteeing its authenticity. The work (30 x 40 cm, with a frame of 38 x 48 cm) features a warm, earthy palette, ideal for contemporary spaces or collections focused on post-20th-century Italian painting. A museum-quality work with a strong visual presence, from a private Italian collection. Antonio Mignozzi was born in 1942 in Trebisacce (CS), studied at the Brera Academy in Milan, and has lived and worked in Verbania since 1973. His painting practice investigates visual memory, matter, and the suspension of time between figuration and abstraction. His works have been presented in numerous solo exhibitions in Milan, Brescia, Locarno, and Verbania, and are featured in specialized auction catalogues. The artist's current market highlights modestly priced works, making this work an attractive opportunity for discerning collectors or contemporary design circles. Mignozzi uses a distinctive technique—often described as "fresco-like"—in which he mixes earth, glue, and natural pigments, some of which are sourced directly from his native region. His surfaces appear like ancient plaster, detached fragments, evoking cave paintings all the way to early Christian art and twentieth-century Italian art: a language that explores matter, the archaeology of the sign, and formal essentiality. Stylistically, the works feature slightly abstract, frontal figures with a quiet yet intense expressive force; there is a sense of continuity with the teachings of Giotto and Masaccio in their restoration of the materiality of painting and walls.
