This sculptural piece, known as cariatide 4, reflects ceccarelli’s exploration of rhythm, geometry, and negative space — where functional furniture meets contemporary sculpture. The hand-carved wooden base is composed of intersecting forms, curved recesses, and cut-outs that reveal a dynamic brutalist yet elegant silhouette. The composition expresses the italian radical design language of the early 1980s: bold, expressive, and deeply material. Crafted from solid wood that has been fire-treated and wax-patinated, the surface shows rich depth and variation in tone, emphasizing the sculptural quality of the design. The process enhances both durability and the tactile presence of the material. The piece is completed with a circular 15 mm glass top, which elegantly exposes the complexity of the base while giving the design an airy sense of balance.
