the late 19th or early 20th century. The artwork depicts, in the foreground, two rowing boats with sailors; in the background,

an elegant two-masted sailing ship glides over calm waters, while another small boat can be seen on the horizon.

Sunlight filters through light clouds, creating a soft and poetic glow that evokes serenity.

This antique oil painting on canvas shows soft and well-blended brushstrokes, yet lively and expressive.

The seascape is signed lower right Ch. Signoret, a French painter known for his nudes, landscapes, and marine scenes.

Charles Louis Eugène Signoret (1867-1932) was born in Marseille and later studied in Paris under Gabriel Ferrier,

Jean Paul Laurens, and Jules Lefebvre.

He began exhibiting his works at the Salon des Artistes Français and received a distinction in 1898.

Further medals followed: the Raigecourt-Goyon Prize in 1910, a silver medal in 1914, and a gold medal in 1920.

The painting features a carved and lacquered wooden frame, contemporary with the artwork itself.

Both the frame and the canvas have been carefully and professionally cleaned and restored.
