Unique safari chair, designed and made by the architect Enrico Hartsuyker (1925-2013) in the 1960s.
Together with his wife architect Lucia Hartsuyker-Curjel (1926-2011), he is one of the most important innovators in post-war urban planning and housing construction. The architect's couple became known for their innovative ideas and daring designs.
We acquired the chair directly from their daughter.
The chair was designed for their own home, see the second picture where the chair is depicted in their home. Only 1 of it was made, unique chair.
It has a wooden (most likely birch) structure, which is beautifully sculpted, and natural saddle leather seat, backrest and armrests.
The chair is in good original condition with a lovely patina. The leather is clearly used, but still good. Only 1 little damage at the right side of the backrest, due to a bolt behind that connects the backrest to the frame. The 2 leather belts underneath the seat are renewed. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
designer records,
or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising
from
misattribution
