A rare set of four large antique brass and ceramic hat and coat hooks depicting a mythical “green man” or … Read more A rare set of four large antique brass and ceramic hat and coat hooks depicting a mythical “green man” or satyr-like character, each impressed with “dep muster” to the back and mounted on a wooden plinth. Each hook has three brass branches, still retaining the original finish, all with their original porcelain finials. There are three fixing holes to screw the plinth to the wall.
“dep muster" refers to a mark found on antique european brass and bronze specifically dating from around 1880 to 1920. It’s short for the german word “deponirt” or the french “déposé” both meaning "registered" or "deposited" and was widely used on goods manufactured in germany and sold in france from the late 19th century through the early 20th century.
"dep muster" is not a company name but rather a mark indicating that the design of the piece was registered or protected, the stamp accompanied by an acorn leaf motif in a circle.
