This novel details the trials and tribulations of the sporting field during the Victorian Age, portrayed through Surtees' character Thomas Scott, Esq.
Robert Smith Surtees (1805-1864) was an English editor and novelist, most widely known for the cockney character of Jorrocks.
Illustrated with numerous colour plates by Phiz, the pen-name of Hablot Knight Browne (1815-1882). Browne illustrated ten works of Dickens, including 'David Copperfield', 'Dombey and Son', 'The Pickwick Papers' and 'Bleak House'.
