Early 20th C. Landscape Print on Board in the Impressionist Style
Subtle, well-executed landscape with an elegant muted tone.
Presents as a European country village, with a very cool perspective across hill leading up to town.
Carries a soft, earth tone color way - olive, khaki, antique white, a dizen shades of green, with pops of red poppies in the field.
Presented in a simple wooden gallery style frame. Unsigned.
Large size - presents as a significant piece - 31" wide by 25" tall by 0.5" deep.
Presents as an original oil on thick card board - perhaps a tribute piece by an unknown artist. But, we suggest it is a high-quality, early print era reproduction, intended for proper frame and display. It has aged gracefully either way - and is priced accordingly.
In keeping with Aesop's fable, Fox and Crow's Motto is "Beware of False Flattery!" So, with each listing we offer a true confession about the item...
My husband has a thing for old cars, and we've pulled two out of barns over the years and walked them through the several year process of returning to the road. He loves it - always feeling like he saved a worthy item, learned about life as the restoration proceeded, and maybe had a little adventure.
So it goes with this pretty picture. It is the antique equivalent of a "barn find" - it was in an unusual place, our discovery of it was entirely by chance, we know nothing of it, and it presents as quiet and simple at first glance.
But, give it another look - the scene is good, the use of color is appealing, the patina is endearing...hmmm...in the right spot, maybe with the right light, this would be sensational...farmhouse? Horse Stable? Stone cottage? Guest cottage? Well-lit coat room on the way to the fields?
This one deserves another chapter!
