The maker’s plaque, inscribed “Médaille d’Argent” (Silver Medal), indicates the firm’s award at an industrial or universal exposition—an important signal of the superior craftsmanship associated with Poulain's workshops. It is also inscribed with Poulain, 72 Rue Amelot, Paris, which indicates its location at the time.
This grand piece is fitted with three inset slabs of richly figured Saint Anne Marble, creating a striking and highly functional surface.
