This exquisite antique French lamp, dating to circa 1840, is a refined example of neoclassical design and enduring craftsmanship. Originally a gas lamp, it has been thoughtfully converted to electricity. Its fluted column form, inspired by classical architecture, is richly adorned with acanthus leaf and laurel motifs, creating a timeless silhouette that adds character and elegance to any space. The untouched patina across its surface tells the story of its age and enhances its visual warmth and authenticity.
The metal label on side reads "Lampe A Moderateur Par Brevet D'Invention Et De Perfectionement" which translates to Moderator Lamp, Patented for Invention and Improvement. The current wiring and socket is about 30 years old and the lamp is operational. Weighs 6 pounds, the lamp stands 22 inches tall to the top of the socket, with a base measuring 5.25 inches wide and deep. A lampshade and lamp harp are not included. Please review the photos for further condition assessment.
Perfect for sophisticated interiors, this lamp works beautifully as an accent in a study, library, or living room—bringing old-world charm and a sense of history to traditional or eclectic decor. Placed on a side table, console, or desk, it functions equally well as a source of ambient lighting or a conversation piece. Its sculptural form and antique presence make it particularly appealing in curated spaces that mix antique and contemporary elements. Whether in a historic home or a modern setting looking for depth and contrast, this rare French neoclassical lamp offers both form and function in a singular, collectible piece.
