This is an antique oil painting on wood panel by the famed Impressionist French artist, Albert Marquet (1875-1947). It is quintessential of the traditional impressionism and harbor scenes for which Monsieur Marquet was most renowned after 1907. The artwork measures 10 ¾ inches high by 13 ¾ inches wide unframed, and 18 inches by 21 inches framed. The work likely depicts the entrance to Fecamp Port in Normandy, France.
The Fair Market Value of the painting was appraised by Brett K. Maly, Fine Art Appraiser for Art Encounter (featured as an art expert on television’s Pawn Stars). In his appraisal report dated August 18, 2025 After physical examination under magnification and blacklight, Mr. Maly stated that it appears to be in good condition. There is a mild accumulation of surface dirt typical with an artwork of its vintage; however, the colors of the paint appear crisp and well-preserved, with no signs of loss or fading, and the support board is intact with no visible blemishes. Additionally, blacklight examination reveals no restoration or overpainting has occurred. The complete 15-page report is available upon request and will be provided to the successful bidder.
Please note the artwork lacks provenance. As noted in the subject appraisal, “an appraiser is not an authenticator. No further claim of authenticity (beyond identification) is implied or intended”. Similar impressionist paintings make up the bulk of Albert Marquet’s oeuvre and typically sell in the $20,000 - $75,000 price range.
