Bands … Read more Late 19th-century Tunbridge Ware box showcasing the intricate geometric marquetry that made the craft famous in the Victorian era. Bands of mosaic inlay in mixed hardwoods run across the lid and down the sides, framing the warm, mellowed grain of the original veneer. The top also features a central octagonal mother of pearl inlay, a classic motif of Tunbridge makers working in and around Kent, England.

This piece is generously sized—unusual for Tunbridge boxes—and retains its original interior structure, including a removable slatted tray. The inside is lined in the original Victorian paper (now distressed), offering a desirable untouched, authentic character.

Condition:
Structurally sound with notable age-expected wear, including veneer losses, edge chips, inlay separations, and distressed lining. A true antique with over 120 years of history, showing the patina and imperfections collectors expect in an unrestored example. Priced accordingly.
