An abstract oil on board painting by the American artist Pennerton West (1913-1965). The black, gray, and white painting features heavy brushwork that intersects creating a dynamic composition. Unsigned, the work is displayed in a wooden frame with metal inlay with an artist tag verso.
Pennerton West studied at the Art Student's League and Cooper Union in New York City. West studied alongside artists Hans Hoffman and Stanley William Hayter. West was involved with Hayter's art group, Atelier 17, in Paris during the 1920s.
