Bring home an iconic piece of Southern folk art with this striking early 2008 Ernest Lee “Chicken Man” original, painted on an extra-tall vertical wood panel measuring 51” H x 11” W.
Ernest Lee, widely known as “The Chicken Man,” is one of the most recognizable and beloved outsider artists in the American South. Based in South Carolina, Lee has spent decades painting his energetic, elongated chickens — each one hand-painted, full of personality, and instantly identifiable. His work has been showcased at festivals, galleries, and live painting events, and his following continues to grow.
This early piece features:
• Rich deep-red background with dynamic yellow splatter accents
• Classic bright-yellow Chicken Man figure with elongated neck and lifted leg pose
• Signed and dated “08” in the lower right corner
• Painted on solid wood panel, consistent with Lee’s early open-air painting style
• A bold, sculptural vertical format ideal for hallways, lofts, kitchens, or gallery walls
Early dated works of this size are increasingly hard to find, especially in such vibrant condition.
