The sculptures by Björn Ekegren of Sweden bridge disparate art glass traditions and influences to create a unique form of expression. His sandcasting technique is reminiscent of the one used by the Egyptians 2000 years ago. The colors, such as ochre, turquoise, and blue, are inspired by the Mediterranean.
Björn Ekegren's creations are in galleries and museums across Europe, the Americas, and Asia.
He is known as a pioneer among Swedish glass artists for originating new casting techniques and uses of materials in combination with glass.
He named this sculpture "Satelite". The emotions evoked when viewing it, change as light shifts throughout the day -- sometimes it reminds one of flying freely, or of basking before a welcoming fireplace, and so on.
Dimensions: 31" tall 12" wide. The thickness of the glass varies. It sits in a verdigris finished bronze container which is mounted on a 7.5" square base, and weighs 34 lbs.
