This is a hand-woven vintage Japanese Wedding Kimono purchased in Tokyo in the 1980s, but seems to have been created in the 1940s. These wedding Kimonos were used for traditional wedding ceremonies for hundreds of years, if not thousands of years, and are still used in modern weddings.
According to a book on Kimonos by Nario Yamanaka, these gowns were "a distinctive aspect of Japanese culture...was seen during the Heian period (794-1185) when ladies of the court donned twelve layers of kimono for ceramonial occasions.
This wedding kimono portrays embroaided cranes. The crane, or Tsuru, is a national treasure and is considered the bird that mates for life and is said to live for a thousand years. It symbolizes honor, good fortune, loyalty and longevity.
Included with the Komono is a hanger so that is can be displayed
This is a great Christmas gift to a family member, a friend or yourself. Will be viewe for years hanging in a room and appreciated for many many years.
