It features … Read more We believe this is a 19th-century English banjo barometer retailed by Ramsgate and designed by Twyman & Co. It features a polished mahogany case with fine string inlay, a silvered dial marked “Rain–Change–Fair,” a brass bezel, and an integrated thermometer above the main dial. The instrument reflects typical Victorian craftsmanship representing the style of domestic weather instruments sold by coastal retailers in Kent during the mid-to-late 1800s. Even though it may have been originally purchased in the UK, it was acquired by my family in the late 1960s or early 1970s; possibly while my grandmother was still living in Paris. In any event, it has been located here in the U.S. since then. See less
