Elegant and tranquil, “Sandpiper” (1977) is an original hand-pulled etching with aquatint by celebrated American artist Maidy Morhous.
This early print captures a quiet shoreline moment — a small flock of sandpipers balanced on warm, rust-colored rocks against a softly textured ground. The composition is serene yet graphic, a hallmark of Morhous’s refined sense of abstraction and balance.
Signed and dated in pencil lower right “Maidy ’77” and numbered 2/150 lower left, this limited-edition work comes from her formative printmaking period following her studies at Atelier 17 in Paris, where she mastered etching and aquatint techniques later echoed in her sculptural work.
Professionally framed under glass in a vintage walnut frame with a neutral mat. Excellent vintage condition. The artwork and mat are clean with no visible foxing, staining, or fading. The frame shows some wear consistent with age and the era of the piece, including minor scuffs and surface marks typical for a work from the late 1970s. Presents beautifully overall.
