This captivating 1950s oil on canvas painting presents a soulful bay horse peering from a stable, rendered with striking realism by listed English artist W.F. Perrin. The horse’s intelligent gaze is full of personality, framed within a classic brick arch and green stable door that evoke the rustic charm of a traditional English estate. Painted in warm, earthy tones with exceptional detail, the scene invites a sense of quiet dignity and timelessness.
Measuring approximately 20 inches high by 16 inches wide, the piece captures the essence of equestrian grace and countryside calm. The original period wood frame, accented with a subtle gilt inner edge, enhances its classic appeal and makes it ready to hang and enjoy. Good antique condition with light signs of age-related wear. Signed by the artist in the lower right corner and inscribed “NIZEFELA” in the lower left. Nizefela was a distinguished bay gelding born in 1942, celebrated for his exceptional contributions to British show jumping. Partnered with rider Wilfred "Wilf" White, Nizefela became a cornerstone of the British equestrian team during the 1950s. At the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, Nizefela and White played a pivotal role in securing the team gold medal for Great Britain in show jumping. In the 1956 Equestrian Olympics held in Stockholm, Nizefela and White continued to demonstrate their prowess. They narrowly missed the individual podium, finishing in a tie for fourth place. Their efforts significantly contributed to the British team's success, earning them the team bronze medal.
