This is a handwoven Caucasian kilim dated 1914, as woven directly into the textile. Based on its pattern, materials, and weave, it originates from the South Caucasus region, most likely Azerbaijan or Armenia. The double diamond medallion design and color palette are characteristic of Shirvan or Qazakh kilims.
The kilim is handwoven from handspun wool on a wool foundation, utilizing natural vegetable dyes. The weaving technique is a slit-tapestry structure, typical of nomadic Caucasian flatweaves.
The central field features two large diamond medallions with cruciform motifs, symbolic of protection and fertility. The palette consists of deep reds, indigo blues, ivory, and accents of pink, yellow, and teal. Multiple narrow guard stripes frame a wide border decorated with hexagonal 'eye' motifs—ancient amulets against evil.
