This is a Japanese merchant coin book and carrying case, called a Tansu, from the Meiji Era. It has three long draws, with one a bit less long so that a hidden coin box found. It also has a large top opening draw for storage. The Tansu is 14 1/2 inches by 22 1/2 inches and 10 inches high. The top opens to a 13 by 16 inch by 8 1/2 inches high. All locks are open and no keys provided.
Coins are inserted through a top slot, at the right side, and under the slot is a smaller hidden draw. This hidden draw is behind a larger draw which can be seen from the photos.
All parts are original including the draws. Very unique piece since most of these are no longer available.
