Adriaan Boshoff was a self-taught painter of landscapes, seascapes, still life, and figures. He worked in oils, and became known for portraying everyday scenes in his unmistakable impressionistic style. He became one of South Africa's foremost artists, and claimed international attention. A recurring theme was a mother and child, such as this one, whether set in a field, at home, or at the shore. This painting is oil on canvas and is signed in the lower right corner. It may be in its original fame. I bought the painting in 2003 from Pieter Oosthuizen Antiques and Interiors in Pretoria, South Africa. The painting measures 42 x 32 cm (about 16 x 12 inches) excluding the frame, and approximately 57 x 47 cm (about 23 x 19 inches) including the frame. It is in excellent condition. See less
