Imperial Glass Amethyst Carnival Glass Zippered Heart Berry Bowl Antique Set / 7
Excellent vintage condition. The Imperial Glass Company produced the beautiful iridescent "Zippered Heart" pattern in carnival glass. It was first produced around 1905 as part of their Early American Pressed Glass (EAPG) line and later in carnival glass, with a significant number of pieces being made in carnival glass from the 1905-1909 period (1905 to about 1925). In Carnival Glass, you can expect the majority pieces of art not to have a maker's mark on them.
What is Carnival Glass? The single most unifying factor is that crazy wild iridescent glaze that looks like a rainbow. In a nutshell, this is ‘pressed’ glass to make the shape and then while it’s still hot, an application of metallic salts is applied and then the piece is fired one last time bringing out the ‘oil slick’ appearance of the glaze.
Each piece seems to have its own personality, too, as the glaze can inexplicably vary from one piece to the next.
This Zippered Heart pattern has an external only pattern, the iridescence being rich and colourful. The plain interior is just as striking and colorful.
As with all antique glass especially carnival there may be slight imprefections such as a straw mark, bubble, or indentation from manufacturing which is completely normal when dealing with glass of this age. These pieces have very minimal wear marks considering their age (no breakage or cracks). These bowls have became much harder to find.
There are 7 pieces total in this berry bowl set, one large bowl that is 10" W; 3" T; 4" base width. There are 6 smaller bowls that are 5" W; 1.5" T; 2" base width.
