A phenomenally preserved set of six CH 31 dining chairs in teak by Hans Wegner, made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son c. 1960s, all with original labels intact.
The CH 31 is defined by seamless integration of wood and weave. The stylized front stretcher bar opens slightly in the center, allowing strands of rattan to enter and disappear beneath the seat. The double-paned weave of the seatbacks makes the chair exceptionally beautiful from all angles – laborious to restore, to be sure, but necessary to preserve integration between the wooden and woven components.
The rattan seats are comfortable, breathable, and durable. The weave oxidizes with time, acquiring a beautiful golden amber hue that only time can impart. Built from solid old growth teak, the CH 31 is an heirloom quality chair designed to last generations.
The frames have been carefully polished to restore the teakwood’s natural luster. The seats and backs are stable and ready for use, with occasional spot repairs made as needed.
